In addition to various modeling techniques I picked up on, one of the most important lessons I learned from this project is the importance of using a good HDR image in connection with the Arnold Skydome Light. HDR images should be used to enhance the desired lighting of a scene rather than force lights to match that of and HDR image. In this situation I connected an HDR image to the Skydome Light and turned down the intensity so that it acted as a sort of fill light while providing ambient shadows and reflections on the surface of the plane giving it a bigger overall sense of realism.
